Manchester United legendary defender Rio Ferdinand has slammed “invisible” Red Devils attacking pair Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for their terrible form in the disappointing defeat against Sheffield United.
The Red Devils missed the chance to return to the top of the table as the Premier League’s basement side pulled off a shock win, with Kean Bryan and Oliver Burke goals while Harry Maguaire’s header wasn’t enough to secure points.
The 20-times English champions normally potent attack was nullified by a Blades backline marshalled by 38-year-old centre-back Phil Jagielka, and Ferdinand believes that Solskjaer’s forward’s failed to fulfill the expectations for this game.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “They didn’t have that zip about them. From minute one, really, there wasn’t that cut and thrust we’ve seen from United.
“Credit Sheffield United, Chris Wilder set them up very well. But United didn’t ask the questions. Bruno Fernandes, who they’ve relied on so heavily in recent weeks, months, didn’t get it going today. Paul Pogba the same.
“Rashford and Martial were invisible, didn’t get on the end of anything, didn’t create anything. If anybody was starting to get carried away at Old Trafford, with the position that they’re on, it was a reality check.”
Defeat to the Blades ended the Red Devils 13-game unbeaten run in the English top-tier, and they are now one point behind leaders Man City , while Pep Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand.
