Rio Ferdinand wants Red Devils to continue pursuing the summer transfer of Jadon Sancho, despite Bundesliga club insisting he is staying put. Man United have been told by Borussia Dortmund that England international is going nowhere after they failed to sign him before the German club’s August 10 deadline.
‘We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season,’ Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said on Monday. ‘The decision is final. I think that answers all of the questions.’ The Red Devils are now considering their options, with Blaugrana’s Ousmane Dembele thought to be a viable alternative.
However, reports claim that they are not yet ready to give up on a deal, despite being ‘frustrated’ with both Jadon’s wage demands and BVB’s tactics. And Rio who won six PL trophies and the UCL during his time at Man United thinks that the Red Devils should keep pushing to land Sancho this summer.
‘He is fantastic,’ Ferdinand said. ‘If he does come he’ll be an added value in terms of quality, no doubt. Man United need top players who are going to have an effect on their first XI and I think Jadon Sancho falls into that category.’
‘If you look at successful Man Utd sides over the years, successful periods, there were players fighting for every position and if you substitute one out and you brought one in there was no change in the quality or the output.’ Red Devils will hope to add silverware to their season after securing UCL qualification.
They will take on Sevilla in the UEL semi-finals on Sunday evening. The winner will face either Inter Milan or Shakhtar Donetsk.
