Serie A club backed to bring £26m Arsenal out-of-favour midfielder

Stranded at Atletico Madrid until the end of the campaign, Arsenal loanee Lucas Torreira will need to find himself a new team in the summer.

The Uruguayan star has little to no future at the Emirates, where Mikel Arteta has different plans for the midfield, and while the midfielder showed some good determination to fight for his position in La Liga, the move simply has not worked out for him.

Once he returns to Arsenal, few would be surprised if Lucas decided to head back to Serie A, where a host of teams would welcome him with open arms.

Fiorentina are one of those, with reports of negotiations already underway regarding a summer transfer, but Luca Borriello, who has worked for various sides as a scout, believes he’d be great for Napoli.

Speaking to Area Napoli exclusively, Luca said: “Arsenal try to sell him left, right and centre, but I don’t understand why Napoli don’t bet on him. He costs €20m, he’s really a monster.

“I don’t understand what they are waiting for. It would be crazy. At that price, I would take him immediately, it would be an extraordinary deal.

“He’s a complete, versatile player, who makes his presence felt in the middle of the field and can illuminate the game of the whole team. I always wonder why others teams don’t buy such a player at that price.

“The market has changed, the prices of the players have changed with the Covid emergency, but if I were Napoli, I wouldn’t let him escape.”
