Lisandro Martinez believes he has joined ‘one of the best teams in the world’ following his move to Man United.

The 24-year-old defender has been signed in a €67.3 million (£56.2m) deal and is reunited with Erik ten Hag, with whom he has worked for three years at Ajax.

Man Utd’s direct Premier League rivals, Arsenal also pushed hard to secure the services of Martinez and had submitted multiple offers in order to land Argentine defender.

However, Martinez has made it clear that the Red Devils was always his favoured destination.

Asked why he decided to sign for Man United, Martinez told MUTV: ‘Well, Manchester United I think is one of the best clubs in the world.

‘Every player wants to play here. The opportunity was there, so I took it and now I’m really happy to be here.’

Speaking about the influence of having Dutch manager at United, Martinez said: ‘Well, I was with him three years at Ajax and I know his style of playing. With him, I improved a lot to be honest.

‘He’s here in Manchester now, so again the opportunity was there and for sure he’s very important in my career.
