Premier League outfits Southampton are reportedly at the head of the queue to secure services of Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie and ready to rival Liverpool for his signature.
The 21-year-old still has four years left on his current deal with his German team, however, a recent report suggested that he was keen on a move ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Chelsea and Arsenal are all believed to be fans of the USA international, who has joined Schalke from FC Dallas in 2017 and has played 91 games for the Royal Blues in all competitions.
However, according to The Express, the Saints are leading the race for a player who could be available for £18m, but Liverpool are also believed to be in the hunt for his services as Klopp keen on to strengthen his midfield options.
The report suggests that the Saints will first need to offload Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, though, before submitting an offer for McKennie.
Everton and Tottenham are seemingly locked in a battle for Hojbjerg’s services, with the Denmark international free to depart St Mary’s ahead of next campaign.
Liverpool also eyeing a move for another Bundesliga star Jadon Sancho whose future has been up in the air at Dortmund with hosts of European teams are keen on to get the deal done.
