With 23 goals netted in Sporting Lisbon’s title-winning campaign this campaign, Pedro Goncalves became quite an obvious target for European sides this summer.
Since his early success for his club started, Pedro has been linked to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, and a move at the end of the term was already on the cards.
However, the Portuguese newspaper Record brings welcome news for Sporting Lisbon fans, claiming the Lisbon outfit are actually working on a new deal for the 22-year-old star.
It’s said discussions are ongoing with agent Jorge Pires. The board want to reward Goncalves with a better salary, and a full agreement could be reached in the coming days.
Still, it does not mean Pote is staying at the Jose Alvalade Stadium long term. Record points out that his exit clause is €60m, and even though the Lions wanted to raise it, it does not seem like they will be able to do it.
So before agreeing a fresh contract, they even admitted they could lose Pedro and could negotiate his sale for less. Now, with a contract extension, they will do their best to hold him and demand €60 million.
There are two interested outfits named in the story, with Jurgen Klopp’s side and the Red Devils said to be in the picture.
The two English giants are mentioned as the most attentive, but it’s now clear they are only signing him if the buy-out clause is triggered.
