Atletico Madrid beat Arsenal to the landing of Gelson Martins in the summer transfer market but according to a report from the Daily Star, the Gunners’ management remain interested in signing the star.
The Portugal international forward sought an exit from Sporting CP at the end of the previous season and went on to complete a move to Los Rojiblancos.
However, despite Gelson having only spent some months at his new team in Spain, it’s stated by the star that the Gunners remain at the very front of the queue in the hunt for the winger’s signature.
Gelson has developed a reputation for being one of the continent’s trickiest wingers, making an impression out on the right-hand side with some exciting performances for club and country.
This appears to have piqued the interest of the north London giants, who have been perennially connected with a move for Martins.
It’s likely that Atletico Madrid will demand a premium price for their new signing given how recent his arrival is, but Arsenal are still reported to be leading league rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of the 23-year-old star.
