La Liga giants Valencia have lined up an emotional return to the club for Man United attacking midfielder Juan Mata, according to a report.
Spanish playmaker is believed to have held initial talks with the Red Devils over a new deal after entering the final 12 months of his current contract.
According to the Sun, Valencia are watching developments and may make an approach for the veteran playmaker if he opts against penning a new deal with the Reds.
Los Che are unable to match the £140,000 a week that Spaniard earns, however, they hope that a return to his former club – where he spent four years before joining the Blues in 2011 – may be enough to lure him into a move.
The Red Devils source is quoted by the publication as saying: “It is well known Juan is wanted by Valencia. There is a strong connection between the two.
“His deal is up next summer and it looks likely he’ll leave unless something changes soon. We know Juan’s motives are not related to money and there’s a very strong emotional attachment to take into account.”
Spaniard has made 129 La Liga appearances for Valencia and has helped them to claim Copa del Rey title.
