Watford eyeing move for 6 ft 3 Liverpool defender

Watford have declared their interest in landing Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips this transfer window, Football Insider reports.

The Merseyside outfit are willing to listen to proposals for the 24-year-old as he aims to join a club where he can play week in, week out.

The same report states that Watford have launched a move for Phillips as Claudio Ranieri looks to recruit a new defender at the back.

The Reds value the player at around the £12 million mark after he penned a new four-year deal last August. Nathaniel has confirmed that he is prepared to move in search of regular senior team football.

In an interview with Sky Sports last month, the centre-back said he would “certainly be interested” in a transfer to a team where he’d play regularly.

He has only made three first-team appearances for his side this season. The star played a pivotal role for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2020-21 term after an injury crisis on Merseyside.

In all competitions, the Englishman featured in 20 games last term. The Italian coach has identified him as a solution to his side’s defensive woes.

Watford have lost their last six top-flight fixtures as they are currently 17th in the standings – two points above the relegation area.
