Arsenal are allegedly plotting a move for West Brom’s Sam Johnstone in the event that their chase for Aaron Ramsdale ends in failure this summer.
Manager Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing in serious competition for Bernd Leno as the Spaniard looks to add quality to his Arsenal side following a miserable season for the club both domestically and in Europe.
Shot-stopper Runar Alex Runarsson has failed to make the impression after coming in to replace Emiliano Martinez – who left to sign for Aston Villa last September – and the north London side have drawn up a shortlist of potential goalkeeping targets.
It’s understood Aaron is at the top of Arsenal’s shortlist in this position but Sheffield United have no intention of selling their number one and the Gunners have been forced to monitor the transfer market for alternatives.
According to a report from The Daily Star, Baggies goalkeeper Johnstone has been identified as a realistic option for the Gunners.
The report says West Brom would be prepared to part ways with the 28-year-old for a fee of just £20 million ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Sam started his professional career with Manchester United and was sent on ten separate loan stints before completing a permanent £6.5 million switch to the Hawthorns three years ago.
