West Ham United head-coach David Moyes has joked that he would ask for Chelsea talented midfielder Billy Gilmour to be involved in any deal for the Blues long-term target Declan Rice.
The versatile English midfielder has supposedly attracted interest from Frank Lampard’s side this season, although the Hammers are believed to be reluctant to part ways with the 21-year-old midfield destroyer.
Nevertheless, Moyes has acknowledged the talks that Chelsea are keen on a contract for Declan Rice, and the Scot has lavished praise on the West London club’s teenage midfielder Gilmour.
“The one [Scottish player] who if I could sign tomorrow I would is Billy Gilmour after his opening performances for Chelsea,” Moyes told BBC Scotland’s Scottish football podcast.
“He’s looked like a seasoned pro, he’s looked like somebody who’s hungry, who’s in love with the game.
“I was laughing because I keep getting told that Chelsea want Declan Rice, so I thought well I might just decide I want Billy Gilmour and see how it goes.”
Gilmour has played seven games for the West London club this season, and the 18-year-old has also played 12 games for the Scotland Under-21 team.
Declan Rice has also emerged as a shock transfer target for Chelsea’s direct PL rivals Manchester United.
